A simple village of fisherman and craft builders to the North of Salvador, the fantastic beach has begun to attract tourists from Brazil and abroad.

The local folklore and culture and colourful costumes worn by the fishers and their wives have survived the influx of shops, restaurants and simple inns.

The money brought by tourism has permitted street lighting and paving and the installation of water mains and sewers. So the area is more civilised if less primitive.
