Rocky cliffs fringe the beach

Praia das Fontes Resort Information

The beach at Praia das Fontes is one of the finest in the world. Just 50 miles south of Fortaleza and much closer than that to the airport, it is an increasingly popular resort. The huge brown and white cliffs which are such a feature of the landscape harbour natural springs of fresh, cool, drinking water.

It is only three miles from the traditional fishing village of Morro Branco where the jangadeiros still sail their small flat bottomed craft out to sea to catch fish. Behind it lies the beautiful lake of Uruau, where fishing and snorkelling are safer and easier than in the sea.,

Popular pursuits here are riding down the long beach on a buggy or possibly a horse and using the locally reliable winds to kitesurf or fly in ultralights.

The Oasis Hotel offers an all inclusive regime, since there are fewer restaurants in this essentially beach village community.

H from Miami walked about.

"We made the short trip to one of Brazil's nicest beaches. The unique and picturesque coastline of Morro Branco lies 50 miles from Fortaleza on the spectacular coast. Morro Branco is known for its colourful sand cliffs, which range from white to pink and reddish to beige. Pass the dunes and explore a natural labyrinth with fresh water springs at Praia das Fontes ("Beach of the Springs")/ We took a jangada (a small wooden sailboat) ride to some nearby caves and saw handicrafts made of sand - a local specialty. In Iguape, we metd lacemakers who peddle their intricate embroideries."
